Can You Earn Money Through Google AdSense?

Google AdSense presents one of the best ways to make money online blogging – it’s basically a contextual advertising program run by Google through which webmaster (i.e. site owners and bloggers) can display ads and get paid on pay per click basis.
Now, the most common question that runs through the minds of millions of webmasters is whether they can really earn money through Google Adsense? And, if so how much?
Well, you’d see this discussed on thousands of forums, including the Google’s official forum and then answer is a big YES, but it’s subjective to the traffic levels you get, your website niche, as well as behavior of visitors.
Regular Visitors Won’t Fetch You a Lot of Money: Basically, you make money with Google Adsense when your visitors click on the ads displayed on your site. Now, the regular readers of your blog are less likely to click on such ads, while the visitors arriving from search engines are highly likely to look around, click couple of links, and perhaps click an ad and run away from your site after checking out the information they were looking for.
Get Search Engine Traffic: Hence, it’s crucial to get lot of search engine traffic (especially from Google) and that would be only possible when you rank on first page for the popular search terms related to your niche. If you’re running an automotive blog targeting a particular brand such as Hyundai, then you should try to rank for various Hyundai models, and then display ads in the reviews.
Content is Always the King: No matter what your niche is, content is always going to be the most decisive factor in your SERP rankings, and quality content can do wonders, while poorly written content can put an end to all your dreams!
Targeting the Right Keywords: If you target the right keywords, and write some killer content, you’d have maximum chances of getting the best results. If you go against a lot of competition, the process of search engine optimization would obviously be far more difficult, though the results would be highly rewarding too. However, I’d advise you to target low competition longtail keywords that are relatively easier to rank for.
How Much Can You Earn?
Coming to the million dollar question, the amount of money that you can make with Adsense depends on the traffic levels as discussed above, and the niche of your website. Some niches like medical, and mortgage are very high paying, and you could even get as high as $50/click (yes, I know that’s insane!), while for entertainment niches, payouts could be as low as $0.01-0.1 per click, and you could be playing with pennies.
However, on the other hand, the click through rate with entertainment niche is quite high, while that with technology and mortgage etc is really low, so the number of clicks that you get, also vary greatly.
Furthermore, cost per click also depends largely upon the demographics of your visitor. North American traffic fetches very high payouts, while Asian and African traffic could pay you pennies again. Traffic from UK is also quite valuable, but US traffic gives the pay rates with Adsense for sure.
On the whole, with about 10k unique visits/day (North American Traffic), you can make about $30, and of course the figures vary greatly, as mentioned earlier.
So, if your blog/site gets say 100k visits/month, you can surely make a fortune with Google Adsense. Additionally, you can also get some CPM ads for such traffic levels, and you could easily be playing in thousands of dollars with just one great blog or website.
